Freehold Aviation Association, Inc. is a local flying club located at Freehold Airport. A small public use airport in the northern Catskill Mountains of New York operated by Nutmeg Soaring.. Freehold Airport is located about 25 miles south of Albany, New York.
Our flying club is a not-for-profit, 501 C 3, organization incorporated in December of 2001. The club is currently based at Freehold Airport, 1I5.
Our club consists of mostly local pilots (ASEL, glider, ultralite, and gyrocopter). Members include a retired airline pilot, school teachers, a retired New York State Trooper, and many local businessmen. We currently have about 20 members.
The Freehold Aviation Association (students and certified pilots) have ready access to several CFI's for instruction in the club aircraft, or your own.
Our club aircraft includes a Piper J-3 Cub and a Cessna C150. In the off-season our Cessna C150 is moved to nearby Columbia County Airport, 1B1, a year-round airport, and is available for flying.
Our club normally holds its monthly meeting on the first Saturday of the month at 12:00 Noon at the airport or one of our local restaurants. Times subject to change. Guests are always welcome, and anyone interested in joining our club are encouraged to attend a meeting.
During flying season, club members get together for socializing at the airport, local restaurant or members homes.
Club members are encouraged to participate in the maintenance of club aircraft and support other club needs.
Freehold airport is located about 15 miles west of the New York State Thruway and depending whether you are traveling from the north or south, exits 21 (Catskill) or 21B (Coxsackie) may be used.
From Catskill, follow State Route 23 west 8 miles to State Route 32 north 5 miles to Freehold, NY. Turn left on to County Route 67 and travel west 1.5 miles to the airport.
From Coxsackie, turn left at the end of the exit on to State Route 9W and follow it south about 2 miles. Turn right onto State Route 81 and head west 13 miles to Greenville, NY. Turn left onto State Route 32 and travel south 5 miles to Freehold, NY. Turn right on to County Route 67 and travel west 1.5 miles to the airport.
